Well, closing came and went. It was pretty uneventful and before we knew it, we became the owners of a wonderful home! We were able to spend some time with the sellers (who are extremely nice, generous people) and told us various stories of the house. It was obvious just from looking at the house that they loved the house and selling it was a hard decision for them, but I told them during closing that we would love the house just as much as they did and that we would take good care of it. So now...packing and moving. Yikes! We took possession of the house yesterday, Monday, March 30 and we are both still in disbelief that we own "a place" and can't wait to have people over! Hmm, if we could only convince people to come to the old house first, pick up a few items, and bring them over to the new house.....!
As if our lives were packed (Mmmm, bad word choice!) with enough activity...Friday night we came home from the theatre to have C.J., our younger dog have a few attacks of what I am calling "projectile colitis." Mess aside, it was a shock to learn that Bloomington, IN, the city of dog lovers, does not have a 24-hour emergency vet center! So, at 11:00 PM we are off to Indianapolis! Long story short, C.J. did indeed have irritable bowel syndrome (She gets worked up over large items....especially new ones or ones that have moved!) and spent the night at the emergency vet, getting fluids, antibiotics, etc. We picked her up Saturday night and she is pretty much back to normal. We will have to take care when we start to really move things and we're giving some thought to doggie day care on the days of major moves.
Yesterday we received the keys to the house and Fred and I spent the evening wandering the yard, mentally laying out furniture in each room, figuring out what rooms still needed furniture, etc. Hopefully, by April 19th we will be "in residence" at the house and the major transition will have taken place. Already, I've started change of address notices to businesses. We're waiting to send out official address change cards to everyone as we await verification that we can keep our phone number. In the meantime, for those that can't wait, our new address is: 5549 S. Tammany Court, Bloomington, IN 47401-9696.
This coming weekend Fred heads to Connecticut to be a guest artist at Choate. While he's gone, I'll be painting the studio/basement space. I'm looking forward to the peacefulness of painting, although the prep is always the worst part of the process. Also, I'll need to dig out the paint equipment/supplies we have from our last painting project just to see what we have and need. It'll be nice to start to put our stamp on Tammany Court though.
Oh Alan, I'm so happy for you and Fred. Can't wait to see more pics. Enjoy the coming years in your home! Cheers!
